How many times in the
past month has immediate reality allowed you to stop and reflect on the fate of
humankind? If you did have the chance and
disposition to look around and take stock, you also felt the presence of a
subtle energy, the whole humanity holding its breath in the face of disaster,
like a multiple being’s synchronous throbs and pulsations reaching our
perception in waves of awareness. The key word is, again and again, threat.
Still, only on coming
back to hope for the near future from
the threat of the recent past can we resonate
with other people’s visions.

Undoubtedly, when in dire straits, people join forces and make the global cause their own. But what after that? What will be the aftermath of all those spur-of-the-moment decisions? What will be the real outcome of the present situation? I profoundly believe that the threat is not only in the present, but also in the future, a threat with different face and even more infectious. It´s something very well suggested in Daniel Dumas´s dystopian fiction story – which, by the way, I loved it. Under no circumstances should governments play with people´s fears and concoct absurd excuses to take advantage of the situation and keep rigging the system in their own favor. Incredible though it may seem, that is likely to happen.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, NHS and scientific research will benefit from the current events inasmuch as the general consciousness will unavoidably push governments to increase the investment in medicine and science. However, as long as countries keep being ruled by politicians, no matter their wing or their color, instead of learned people within their area of expertise, we are condemned to repeat our history.
Anyhow, nobody knows how all this will play out in the future, but surely, grueling times are yet to come.

DeleteThere have been many models of leadership in the history of humankind, even enlightened despotism. I would say - albeit for the sake of having an argument - that the only thing we can hope for is that the least bad of the scenarios will win.
